Youth Voice interview by Robbie Lewis

My Experience
A time when I felt most empowered and valued is when I went on an expedition with Project Exploration- All Girls Expedition. This expedition lasted for 2 weeks- one week in Chicago and the second week in Montana- and it wasn’t like a camping expedition it was more of an outdoor adventure in Yellowstone National Park. It was a diverse group of girls and we couldn’t have any technology whatsoever with us while we were on the field. It gave us more time to connect and bond with each other over the course of that week which really paid off since we all still keep in touch.
Peer Interviews
To get a better understanding of what youth look forward to in a program or what they expect, I asked the girls that are currently enrolled in the All Girls Expedition—which was the program I did last summer--program the following questions:

*    What do you look for in a program?
*    What activities do you like to do?
*    Does money matter?

Q: What do you look for in a program?

A: To learn something new.

Q: What activities do you like to do?

A: Shopping, get on Twitter, and chill [with friends].

Q: Does money matter?

A: Yes money matters. I mean I’ll do a program if it doesn’t pay but if it does then that’s a plus.
