Youth Ambassadors

Kya Reed, 15
YMCA Black and Latino Achievers
Hi, my name is Kya Reed and I'm 15 years old. I live in the south suburbs of Chicago. I'm involved with the YMCA Black & Latino Achievers (BLA) & Hive Chicago. I'll be attending Thornwood High School as a sophomore.I feel inclined being apart of BLA because it educates me and keeps me interesting at the same time. It provides career clusters to help me kind of choose what career I would like to go into. Also, I meet & network with a lot of people. I would recommend this video to anyone who is willing to know more about college and the careers after that.

Hollie Davis, 17
Art Institute of Chicago
I’m an intern at the Art Institute of Chicago and I live in Beverly. I’m a senior at Jones College Prep. I love books, the nation, the huffingtonpost, jazz, politics, and traveling. My favorite books are Devil in the White City, To Kill a Mockingbird, and The Book Thief. I am so proud to be a part of the HIVE network I think teenagers need to demand more from a culture in whose rules we are expected to obey. I also think we are in a point where teenagers have more power than ever through the power of social networking. Teenagers can campaign to become cultural icons through facebook and twitter which is democracy in its most populist form and I am so excited to be a part of that.
Carlos Leon, 15
Art Institute of Chicago
Hello there fellow readers my name is Carlos and I attend Schurz High School. I am part of the Chicago Hive Youth ambassadors. The reason I signed up is because I love to express my ideas and my opinion which is what the program is about. Within the program I've made two videos and two sound tracks which is something I love to do. During my free time i like to sketch. My highlight for the summer has been joining the Hive ambassadors.

Nicole Williams, 15
YMCA Black and Latino Achievers
My Name is Nicole Williams and I'm a 15 year old determined young lady. I reside on the south side of chicago, and in the upcoming school year I will be a sophomore at Air Force Academy High School. I'm involved in the Chicago Hive program and it has really given me chance to express myself in a fun different way. The Hive has been a wonderful experience for me because i got to work with my peers and create a tool kit that will help my peers start youth councils around chicago. I'm also got involved with B.L.A program with The South SIde YMCA. I love this program because it is very fun and informative. I get a chance to learn about different career paths while meeting new people and creating lasting friendships.

Kaillif Ammen does things and breathes and stuff. He lives at YouMedia at the Harold Washington Library, setting up camp inside the ceiling. As a secondary home, he lives in the Lakeview neighborhood and can be found usually viewing lakes. He attends Jones College Prep and spends the majority of his time there making art and sleeping. In his free time outside school, he plays and writes about video games. He is the lead graphic designer for the HIVE Youth Council toolkit.

Elizabeth Ortiz, 17
YolloCalli
My name is Elizabeth Ortiz, but I prefer Lizz. I'm from the south-side of Chicago. I'll be senior in the fall at Perspectives Charter School. I strive to be well-rounded which has gotten me far at this point in my life. I went to New York last summer with Youth About Business, recently traveled to China with Perspectives, and am currently an intern at Yollocalli. I decided to join the HIVE because I think it'll expand my experience and help me gain skills in communication and team building.
John McNamara, 16
YOUMedia

My name is John McNamara and I live in the Heart of Chicago. I attend Jones College Prep, both as an actor and as a writer.I enjoy attending YOUmedia for the vast amount of unicorns in disguise that work there, not to mention the welcoming environment. I also enjoys sewing things for people. I'm also an active member of the HIVE Youth Council, with which I plan to bring better programs and more materials to YOUmedia, so that I may please the unicorns and earn their favor. So far he has managed, with the help of his co-workers, to create a toolkit so that others may start up youth councils as well and please their local unicorn herd.

Janela Mckinney
Free Spirit Media
Hello my Name is Janiela McKinney. I attend CICS Longwood and I'm a Junior. I'm from the south side also known as, Wild hundreds. I like being involved in free spirit media because it gives me the upper hand on knowing how to work the camera and anchor. FSM gives me the opportunity to find even more opportunities that betters myself. It also helps me meet new people and teach myself how to be humble. This summer i got the opportunity to be apart of the Chicago Hive Youth Ambassadors program. I enjoy being able to be that voice for my peers, considering its hard to not be looked over in this era. We serve as voices to create youth councils in organizations like Free Spirit Media.
